Sun Mountain ClubGlider
Sometimes inspiration comes out of thin air.

Such was the case with Sun Mountain’s new ClubGlider travel bag, which traces its origins to a 2003 stroke of
brilliance. Inventor Gary Sherrell was on a flight following a golf trip when he sketched out the initial concept
of a golf travel bag that sported an extra set of in-line wheels. In addition to the usual pair, Sherrell thought to
affix pivoting wheels to two retractable legs that would lower from a recessed area in the base of the luggage.
The modification allows the retractable legs to support most of the weight of the golf bag at a 30-degree
angle; a golfer can grab the handle at waist height and roll the bag effortlessly. If you watched the Golf
Channel’s 2007 reality series “Fore Inventors Only,” you may recall Sherrell presenting this idea to the judges.
Though Sherrell didn’t win the contest, Sherrell has licensed his travel bag modification to Sun Mountain.

Sun Mountain knows golf. They invented the retractable-leg stand bag and perfected the lightweight carry
bag. I’ve been a Sun Mountain fan for years, walking the world’s golf courses with Sun Mountain’s carry bags,
outerwear and their excellent Atlas golf club travel bag, a combination soft-sided case melded to a sturdy
plastic clamshell top that offers a nearly perfect marriage of easy storage and golf club protection. Like most
golf club travel bags, though, the Atlas had a major drawback. Fully loaded, it feels every bit like you’re
dragging around a 45-pound chunk of luggage through an airport.

Thanks to Sherrell, Sun Mountain has built a better mousetrap. The ClubGlider is the easiest travel bag I’ve
ever used. No more dragging and pulling. On a smooth surface, you can drive this baby with a single finger.
Literally. The legs extend from the base with a simple pull and can support an oversized golf bag with ease.
Two generous outside pockets, heavy-duty zippers, bulky foam padding to protect your clubheads, cinch
straps and carry handles complete the package. You can think of the ClubGlider as an improved Club Glove
bag with legs.

Lugging around a bulky suitcase in one hand and your golf travel bag in the other – from the airport, to the
car, through the hotel lobby, into and out of the elevator, down the hall to the last room on the right that must
be a quarter mile away – used to be an exhausting chore. I’m through with that. Sun Mountain’s ClubGlider is
a game changer.

I’m never going back to my Club Glove. I’ve given away my Atlas. The ClubGlider really is that good.
I field the same question from weary golfers in nearly every airport and hotel line I stand in: “Where can I buy
one?”
